Observations of the Local Group of Galaxies

PISCES DWARF / LGS3

From October 25th to the 29th 1978 a series of shmidt plates were taken in the area surrounding the galaxy M31 to try and locate some faint companions to that galaxy. After inspecting the plates 5 possible candidates were found. The LGS list was published in the IAU Circular 3305 by. Later examination of the 5 suspected galaxies revealed only one true member of the local group. The initial remarks from the plate examination said of LGS3 Resolved; Mag. 21 stars.

LGS3 is 3000 lightyears distant and is a satellite galaxy to M33. The galaxy has a diameter of 1700 lightyears.
