Observations of the Local Group of Galaxies

ANDROMEDA I

Andrew Murrell observing from Australia using a 20" ƒ/5.

The galaxy appeared as a haze about 3' across. The total magnitude of the galaxy is 13.8 making the surface brightness below 16th magnitude. The galaxy was barely visible with Hector. The main difficulty was the presence of several 12th and 13th magnitude stars in the field. The galaxy has an even surface brightness and shows no condensation in the nucleus area.

Steve Dillinger observing from Colorado USA using a 20" ƒ/3.95

Several faint stars are superimposed which really interfere. Small core pretty easy, outer halo suspected.
